Hello gents! Hope you are well. I just listened to today's podcast (great job as always!). My gut tells me Jayme is in on it, hope to be wrong, although I have the say the number of pedos in the area is extremely problematic. Thanks for researching this one, tough one for sure. Best, M

Hey! great episode. Wanted to let you know Nic that Eau Claire is pronounced "oh-claire". It is a city and a county in central Wisconsin. It's French for clear waters :) Unless you are from wisconsin or lived up there, you wouldn't know that, so thought id be helpful! Also, Jayme shares the same birthday with my oldest daughter, whose middle name is Jayne (spelled that way after my dad's name Jay), and i was living in WI at the time, so my daughter was born at Meriter hospital in Madison. Just eerie coincidences that are keeping me riveted with this case!

I think Jayme’s mother’s reaction to lock herself in the bathroom WITHOUT HER DAUGHTER is very strange and suggests she knew her daughter was part of the killings... just my 2c... As we say down here... inté! :-)

Hi guys, I was just wondering if you guys would mind covering an actual Sex Trafficking case? I know we hear a lot about those these days but I’m having trouble finding an actual verifiable case. It just seems so crazy to me as to why someone would actually risk prison (or possibly the death penalty in some states) to kidnap someone to just sell them for sex?? When there are literally thousands and thousands of young (and older) women that would willingly do it. Plus, how could the sex trafficker be sure that they wouldn’t just mention something to one of their johns that they were kidnapped? Or are we supposed to believe that all of the people who would pay for sex are complete animals and would care less if that girl was kidnapped? Or that there is some big underground sex pervert ring in the U.S. where all the pedderests get together and share their victims and somehow law enforcement is unable to infiltrate their sophisticated clique?? Maybe I’m just confused, do law enforcement now consider it sex trafficking for any underage person to have a pimp? If that’s the case then disregard the first question about doing a show on an actual sex traffic case because I’m sure there would be thousands upon thousands. I’m just going under the assumption that a person would have to be unwillingly kidnapped and sold for it to be considered a sex trafficking case, but I could be wrong on that??? Thanks, Brad

@ Ronaldo - that is an excellent observation... I do want to point out that we don't know for sure that Jayme was not in the bathroom with her mother Denise - but if she wasn't then that is a possible red flag. We should keep in mind too - the rumor we reported coming from one of the neighbors is Law Enforcement may have said that Jayme was heard yelling please help or please stop in the background - this an indication that she is not involved in my opinion. But still very strange that Jayme and the dog were left alive in what appears was a very determined plan to kick down a door and shoot occupants. I wonder what the Sheriff's Department is holding back. I look at two things as possibilities - 1) they have reason to believe that she is involved but still want her public portrayal to be that of a victim- in hopes the public will keep a better eye out for her. 2) the call for local volunteers to search the immediate areas and property owners to search their properties most of the time means they expect to find the victim dead or injured in those areas, maybe concealed. Or in some cases they are hoping to find the perp(s) hiding or evidence - dropped or discarded. When Jayme is found as P.O.S. Scott Peterson would say - all will be revealed Cheers - Nic

@ Brad - there are many different forms of Sex Trafficking crimes, so it's tricky. I too have thought about many of the questions you have stated. One thing to consider and I don't know the numbers but unfortunately a lot of the victims are children of all ages. The individuals that are looking for sex/rape with a child are of course monsters but also already know the whole deal. Some of the ring leaders or procurers of this type of activity are extremely cruel and frankly soulless and they do it for the money. I have also studied several cases where a woman or girl is taken captive just because they happen to be at the scene of the crime/murder(s) and unfortunately they are taken, held and raped for hours, days or more just because the perp could. This would be a witness that they would kill/dispose of anyway and because they are so sadistic - they take this witness and "use them up" before they kill them, just because they can. Sorry - Nic

Hey guys! I love your show and I wait each week for the new episode(s) to be released. I haven’t missed one yet! As for Jayme, she had just seen her parents murdered in cold blood! I would imagine she was in such shock that she wouldn’t need to be restrained in any way (referring to the sighting). I don’t believe she’s involved, and I pray she’s found quickly, unharmed.

Fascinating and sad case--thanks for covering! Has anyone seen the online comments regarding the Aunt's press conference? They brought the dog (Shih-Tzu, small dog) to it. The Aunt talks to Jayme directly via the press about: shopping trips, her favorite Starbucks drink, and that her dog misses her. Not sure what that means, but it's interesting. Maybe the family know something investigators haven't made public yet?

Hi, guys! I used to live 10 miles (I’m still only an hour and a half away and have family there) from Jayme’s house and worked at the Jennie-O Turkey Store. It is a giant turkey slaughter house. A factory. Not so much a store. It is the main employer of the community and surrounding communities. Thank you so much for covering this one! It has really shaken up the community. Things like that don’t happen here.

I hope she is NOT involved, but of course all the corresponding cases of teen killers pop into my mind...and I agree with the person who pointed out the mother not hiding with her child, I feel like a mother would first be trying to protect her child? However I don't see a clear motive here. I also don't see this as sex trafficking: kids get abducted daily without their parents being murdered. There must be more to this case.

Maybe Pumpkinhead broke into the home to steal items of Jayme's clothing in hopes of cashing in on some reward money for after he "finds" the items somewhere. Might not be great plan if they only give a reward to those who provide tips that lead them to her, but a guy fresh out of jail probably doesn't have a lot of experience thinking things through. Sad case. I hope they find her unharmed. I always enjoy your podcasts and have hooked many of my friends on it!

Hey guys, GREAT episode! I hadn’t heard about this case! My theory: Jayme was talking to an older guy online (something 13 yr old girls often do) and her parents find out and forbid her from talking to him. She’s “in love” and the two plot for her to runaway with him, except he plans to kill her parents too. If she's yeling for someone to stop, it may be the guy she’s yelling at, because she didn’t know he was going to kill her parents. Also, he wouldn’t kill her pet, because she controlled the dog and killing it wasn’t necessary. It might be far fetched, but I’ve heard of it in other true crime stories before.

I may have missed something, but you guys were speculating a lot that the parents may have been involved in shady things like drugs and the crime was a result of them owing money or something of that nature. Do you have proof, do they have something in their background or was this just pure speculation? If speculation, this is the kind I hate - when an ugly thing can be thrown out there, start rumors when in fact it may be false. Save that for the police or keep it private. I understand trying to use it to spark ideas or a conversation but I found it very tasteless.

This is too much like a cold case here in Virginia. Google Jennifer Short and you'll find several links. Jennifer's parents were shot and she was kidnapped. Her body was found in a lake in Greensboro, NC. To this day the crime is still unsolved. It's heartbreaking.

Barbara - You did miss something... this was speculation that has already been in the media. Furthermore the two more prevalent theories we were suggesting that involved drugs were both centered on the perp(s) being involved in drugs not the victims. We were also suggesting maybe the perp(s) hit the wrong house. I do appreciate your feedback but there clearly is a lot more to this case than the obvious and speculation and discussion was necessary on this episode. Cheers Nic

So this is what I find bizarre: The father is found at the inside of the front door. There are shots fired through the door (I presume going the direction of into the house) and the door was also kicked in. Was he shot through the door? Did he get shot after the perp entered through the door also to finish him off? Ok so what I find weird is what exactly happened at the front door? Why kick in the door unless the father had refused to open the door for the perp (some type of communication had to have happened through the door). Why didn't the father open the door when the perp knocked or rang the doorbell (or if the perp hadn't knocked then why was the father at the door)? Is there a peep whole in the door? I'm leaning towards the perp was known to the family. Also lol (sorry for the long comment) This probably means nothing but: this all went down after 11:30pm ish (call to police came in at 11:59pm) Jayme would have been in bed since she had school in the morning. So was she woken up by the sound of gunshots? If so wouldn't she of hidden or gone out the window instead of going towards the sound of shots? Unless her mother got her first then they both proceeded to the bathroom where they made the phone call to police. There's just something about this timeline that just doesn't add up to me. Or maybe in just over analyzing all this.

From CNN: Jaenke faces charges of burglary and felony bail jumping. According to the complaint he was released on bond August 11 for another burglary charge, and a condition of the bond was that he commit no other crimes. Arraignment in the first case is scheduled for December 19. In the above comments Ian said that pumpkin head was in jail.....according to this he was released on August 11th. I think PUMPKIN HEAD did it. I believe the cops are holding what they have close to the vest so they can put this guy away for good!

Sorry if I’m submitting this twice lol I think the first one didn’t go thru. Anyway this case reminds me of the case of Shasta Groene. I think maybe some sex offender could have locked in on Jayme and killed her family to get to her. I pray she is found safely and unharmed. I hope the public continues to keep their eyes open too. Shasta was found because a waitress recognized her and called police. Today Shasta struggles with drug abuse and legal issues. Either way Jayme will need a lot of help if found safely. I’ll be praying for her!!

Brad- People love to throw around "sex trafficking" as though it is some big common thing, and a possible explanation of every missing girl. But that really isn't what "sex trafficking" mostly is in the US. Mostly it is poor, socially isolated young women, some teens, some not, who are often addicted to drugs or otherwise dependent on older women/men who manipulate and use them. Often having them sell their bodies. It is mostly not too different from pimping, just a nastier word for it. Some girl who is a dropout and addicted to heroin has a "cousin" who is 35 and agrees to give her a place to stay. Once there, she is manipulated/coerced/convinced/guilted to start selling her body for money because she isn't contributing financially otherwise. Often there can be abuse, but not always. But anyway, "sex trafficking" in the US is almost entirely NOT about strangers abducting and holding prisoner women who are unknown to them. That does happen, but it is rare and a small part of the problem.
